这座博物馆位于交通便利的居尔哈内公园内。伊斯兰科学技术史博物馆由文化和旅游部于 2008 年 5 月 24 日开放。馆内展览是在 Prof. Dr. Fuat Sezgin 的领导下开展研究的成果，这些研究始于法兰克福的阿拉伯-伊斯兰科学史研究所。

博物馆展出了 9 世纪至 16 世纪伊斯兰世界科学家所做的发明、发现和研究。博物馆总展览面积为 3500 平方米，是土耳其首座、继法兰克福之后世界第二座同类博物馆。伊斯兰科学技术史博物馆内有 585 件工具、设备复制品、模型和样品，总共由十二个部分组成：天文学、钟表与航海、战争技术、医学、采矿、物理、数学与几何、建筑与城市规划、化学与光学、地理。

Prof. Dr. Fuat Sezgin 通过五十多年来对伊斯兰科学技术史的研究创立了这座博物馆。通过基于史料的研究成果，他强调科学与文明史的发展是一个整体，是人类共同的遗产。伊斯坦布尔科学史博物馆及伊斯兰技术史博物馆不仅通过科学作品展现审美与教育力量，还通过文献展示伊斯兰世界过去的科学史，从而照亮当下与未来。
