אודות המוזיאון

מוזיאון זה ממוקם במקום נגיש בקלות בפארק Gulhane. מוזיאון ההיסטוריה של המדע והטכנולוגיה באסלאם נפתח ב-24 במאי 2008 על ידי משרד התרבות והתיירות. המוזיאון מארח תערוכה שהיא תוצר של מחקרים שבוצעו בהובלת פרופ' ד"ר Fuat Sezgin והחלו במכון להיסטוריה של המדעים הערביים-אסלאמיים בפרנקפורט.

המוזיאון מציג את ההמצאות, התגליות והמחקרים שנעשו על ידי מדעני העולם האסלאמי בין המאות ה-9 וה-16. המוזיאון, ששטח התצוגה הכולל שלו הוא 3500 מ"ר, הוא הראשון בטורקיה והשני בעולם אחרי פרנקפורט. במוזיאון ההיסטוריה של המדע והטכנולוגיה באסלאם יש 585 כלים, העתקים של מכשירים, דגמים והמחשות, והוא מורכב בסך הכול משנים-עשר חלקים: אסטרונומיה, שעונים וימאות, טכנולוגיית מלחמה, רפואה, כרייה, פיזיקה, מתמטיקה וגיאומטריה, אדריכלות ותכנון ערים, כימיה ואופטיקה, גיאוגרפיה.

פרופ' ד"ר Fuat Sezgin ייסד את המוזיאון הזה לאחר שערך מחקר על תולדות המדע והטכנולוגיה האסלאמיים במשך יותר מחמישים שנה. בעבודותיו המבוססות על מקורות, הוא מדגיש שההתפתחויות בתולדות המדע והציוויליזציה הן מכלול אחד והן המורשת המשותפת של האנושות. בעוד שמוזיאון איסטנבול להיסטוריה של המדע והטכנולוגיה באסלאם מציע את הכוח האסתטי והחינוכי של יצירות מדעיות, הוא גם שופך אור על ההווה והעתיד באמצעות הצגת תולדות המדע של העולם האסלאמי בעבר יחד עם מסמכיו.
